VEP implementation for vehicles from Singapore, Thailand postponed

KLUANG: The vehicle entry permit (VEP) scheduled to be implemented on foreign registered vehicles entering Malaysia via Singapore and Thailand beginning January has been deferred, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the deferment was to standardise its implementation for both Malaysia-Singapore and Malaysia-Thailand routes.
"We still need a little more time to look into certain details as we want to synchronise the system at both border entries.
"We are still in the process of ensuring that the system is running in parallel. We do not want the VEP to be imposed only for vehicles from Singapore but not from Thailand," Liow, who is also MCA president, told reporters after a programme with Paloh community here today.
He was confident that the VEP would be implemented next year and the date of execution would be announced once details were finalised. — Bernama
