KUALA NERANG: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) brought cheer to 800 students from underprivileged families of four parliamentary constituencies in Kedah by sponsoring school supplies under its 'Back-to-School' programme.
The parliamentary constituencies involved were Langkawi, Padang Terap, Kota Star and Jerlun.
"The programme is a part of TNB's corporate social responsibility initiative to help reduce the burden of the underprivileged. Two hundred students were selected from each constituency involved to receive this aid.
"Yesterday, it was distributed in Langkawi, tomorrow in Kota Star, while on Thursday in Jerlun," said TNB Kedah General Manager (Distribution) Ismail Lathifi Teh @ Saman.
Students from the Padang Terap parliamentary constituency, aged between seven and 12, each received a set of school supplies here today.
The programme jointly organised with the Padang Terap parliamentary service centre was officiated by Datin Seri Noraini Abdullah, the wife of Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Since the launch of the programme in 2013, a total of 12,000 underprivileged students from 800 national schools have benefitted from the aid. — Bernama
