Company manager jailed, fined for bribing SWCorp officer

KUALA LUMPUR: A manager of a transport service company was sentenced to a month's jail and fined RM15,000, in default 20 months' jail, by the sessions court here today for bribing a Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) officer.
Judge Azura Alwi handed down the sentence on Cheong Fook Seong, 57, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Cheong was charged with offering RM3,000 to SWCorp) enforcement officer Mohd Zaki Harry Susanto as an inducement for him to not take action against a lorry belonging to Ngan Chooi Huah Enterprise, which was driven by one said Abdullah, for allegedly committing an offence under Section 71(1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act.
The offence was committed at the office of KP48 Enforcement Officer, Level 4, , SWCorp Wisma UOA Pantai, Jalan Pantai Jaya, here at 4.30 pm last Dec 12.
Cheong was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest, which was last Dec 12. He paid the fine.
Prosecuting officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Afiqah Ab Razak prosecuted, while Cheong was represented by lawyer Lim Chi Chou. — Bernama
