KLANG: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) today signed a memorandum-of-understanding with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) to jointly manage a rehabilitation centre for HIV and Aids.
The Baitul Islah Rehabilitation Centre will be located on MAIS land in Serendah, Hulu Selangor and will begin operations next month.
The RM9.1-million centre will be built with funds from the Selangor Zakat Board, said MAIS secretary Datuk Bakhtiar Hussin here today.
Bakhtiar signed the MOU on behalf of MAIS while the AADK was represented by its director-general Datuk Dr Abd Halim Hussin.
According to Bakhtiar, the centre would offer rehabilitation services, treatment and shelter to drug addicts suffering from HIV and Aids.
"The centre can accommodate 40 Muslim male patients at any one time. MAIS will be responsible for the administrative affairs while AADK will see to the operations for the treatment of the patients," he said after the signing ceremony today. — Bernama
