ALOR STAR: ECK Development Sdn Bhd, the main sponsor of the Kedah football squad, will reconsider its sponsorship of the 'Red Eagles' if Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah quit his post as Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, as pressured by certain quarters.
Its director, Puan Seri Ginney Chew said she felt there was no reason for Ahmad Bashah, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, to let go his KFA post as he had done a good job in terms of management and looking after the welfare of players, while also having an open mind about things.
"When I had suggested that Kedah hired Ramon Marcote as head coach, saying that his style of training was suitable for Kedah players and that he was well liked by the fans and supporters, the Mentri Besar said he was prepared to seriously look into the matter.
"It has been proven that the promise was kept with the appointment of Marcote as coach … sponsors need a good squad and good management so that the sponsorship is worth the money spent," she said.
In this regard, Chew said Ahmad Bashah should remain as KFA president if it wished to see ECK Development continue to be the football team's main sponsor and for the team to continue to do well.
Chew said she was saddened and disappointed with some of the fan's negative reception for Ahmad Bashah at the Malaysia Cup 2017 final and the call for him to give up his post at KFA president.
She also described Ahmad Bashah as forward-looking by establishing the Dato Ahmad Basri Academy to produce future football players for the state and country. — Bernama
