Sample B urine test a waste of time: Kumar

KUALA LUMPUR: National hockey squad goalkeeper S. Kumar, who failed a doping test, is looking forward to a hearing with the International Hockey Federation (FIH), which is expected to be held in Jan 2018.
The Tampin, Negeri Sembilan-born player said that he refused to request for a test on sample B of his urine because it would only be a waste of time.
"All I know is that during the doping test, they (Wada) took the same urine and put into two different containers to be used as samples A and B.
"So, 99.9% of the result of sample B will be the same as sample A. As such, it is better to accept the result and focus on the hearing with the FIH," he told a press conference, here today.
Kumar, 38, tested positive in a doping test conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) during the Asian Cup group stage match against Oman on Oct 16.
Kumar said he was shocked to receive the bad news because he did not expect to fail the doping test.
"I participated in many tournaments and was always chosen to undergo a doping test. In the World Cup qualifying round in London recently, I was randomly selected for a doping test, but everything went well."
When asked what food he took which led to the sibutramine in his urine sample, Kumar said he was still looking for the answer.
"I only take 100% supplements supplied by the National Sports Institute (ISN). So I have to try to recall them. Of course if I know that it contains a banned substance, I definitely will not take it," he added.
Kumar won 295 caps with the national team and never had a disciplinary problem. — Bernama
