PETALING JAYA: The suspect in the murder-arson case involving an elderly couple and their two grandchildren will be charged in court tomorrow.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the 38-year-old man will face charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 324 of the same code for voluntarily causing hurt by using dangerous weapons or means.
"We have referred the matter to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) and an order has been issued to charge the suspect. He will be charged at the Telok Datok magistrate's court tomorrow," he said today.
Fadzil said the suspect is facing a total of five charges.
A deaf mute, believed to be the boyfriend of the elderly couple's daughter, was earlier arrested and remanded in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Kuala Langat police chief Supt Azizan Tukiman said the daughter of the late elderly couple, with whom the suspect is acquainted, has been cleared entirely of any involvement.
Azizan said the daughter, who is also deaf and mute, had no knowledge of her boyfriend's intentions against her family.
Investigations have revealed that there was an argument at the house over a loan, which had pushed the suspect to commit the crime.
The suspect, who works at a furniture factory, was arrested on Friday during a raid at a shoplot in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
Chia Tee Nang, 73, Lim Mai Shak, 68, and their grandsons Ryan Chia Zeng Xi, 10, and Chia Yuan Bin, three, died in the fire on Dec 13.
Another grandson, aged 12, survived the attack and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
It was reported that the police had walked through what happened that fateful night with the suspect to delve deeper into the investigation, adding that they had a sign language interpreter for communication purposes.
Police initially classified the case as arson but reclassified it to murder following the discovery of slash wounds on the bodies of three of the dead victims.
