SHAH ALAM: Sirim Berhad (Sirim) today launched two latest services to refer on the authenticity of gold to promote fair and equitable trading in gold locally.
The services are the Malaysian Standard Gold Reference Material (MyRM Gold) and the "Cap Kempa Emas" Certification Scheme which are both based on international standard and unit system.
The services, developed by the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM), were launched by the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohd Diah at the Sirim headquarters, here in conjunction with the open day of the agency today.
Also present at the event were Sirim chairman, Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani and NMIM director, Dr Osman Zakaria.
According to Abu Bakar, Cap Kempa Emas Certification Scheme was based on the ISO/IEC 17067 international standard where the certification would only be awarded to the applicant when there was proof that showed the product tested was genuine and the process of stamping the seal met with the requirements of the Scheme and Malaysian Standard MS1247:2005.
"With the creation of the MyRM Gold, it becomes the benchmark to the quality and genuineness of gold in the market especially in this country," he said at a press conference after the event.
At the event, Sirim also contributed school utensils worth RM200 each to 50 orphans in the surrounding areas. — Bernama
