Inmate charged with robbing housewife of gold necklace, locket worth RM40k

MALACCA: An inmate pleaded not guilty in the sessions court in Ayer Keroh here today on a charge of robbing a housewife of a gold necklace and locket amounting to RM40,000 last August.
Nooraizul Adhha Yahya, 28, was charged with robbing and escaping with a gold necklace and locket belonging to M. Uma Sundari, 58, in Jalan Kampung Kuli heading towards Jalan Hang Kasturi here at 3.10pm on Aug 19.
The unemployed man was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 14 years and liable for fine and whipping, if found guilty.
Judge Norma Ismail did not allow the accused bail and fixed Jan 19 for a re-mention of the case for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.
Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban while the accused was not represented by counsel.
Nooraizul Adhha is currently serving a six-month prison sentence in Kajang Prison, Selangor since Aug 25 for theft under Section 379A/511 of the Penal Code.
