November CPI rises 3.4%

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.4% to 120.8 in November 2017 from 116.8 in the corresponding month of the preceding year, according to Department of Statistics.
Among the major groups which recorded increases were the indices for transport (10.8%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (4%), restaurants and hotels (2.8%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance(2.5%), health (2.2%) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (2.2%), the department said in a statement today.
Based on a seasonally adjusted term, the overall CPI for November 2017 increased 0.7% as compared to October 2017.
Core inflation rose 2.2% in November 2017 compared with the same month of the previous year.
For the period of January to November 2017, the CPI registered an increase of 3.9% compared with the same period last year.
The department said the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages was the main contributor to the rise in CPI during the first eleven months period, registering an increase of 4.3%.
