JOHOR BARU: The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) was asked to carry out a detailed study on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) which would be conducted in Iskandar Malaysia area, soon.
Pulai Member of Parliament Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the study was crucial as there was concern from traffic police that Johor Baru would experience traffic congestion, if the bus route was not analysed in detail.
"It is because most of the roads in Johor Baru are just two lanes. So if one of the lane is reserved for BRT, it will cause traffic congestion, especially at the city centre.
"Therefore a detailed study is needed to assist the police for their traffic control planning," he told reporters after the Social Transformation Programme in Taman Tampoi Utama, here today.
Nur Jazlan said, IRDA was one of the important government agencies but recently was lacking in track record planning and implementation.
"One of the examples is they used to plan to implement an integrated hawker centre in Jalan Meldrum. However after five to six years, there is no story about it and IRDA left the project to be implemented by other agencies," said Nur Jazlan who is also deputy home minister. — Bernama
