Police arrest three members of motorcycle theft gang

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police arrested three members of a motorcycle theft gang including an Indonesian in a raid on a house in Kampung Petani, here early this morning.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) District police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the three men aged between 25 and 30 year were picked up at about 1am.
"During the raid, the man aged 30 who is also the gang's leader tried to escape through the back door and resulted in a scuffle with the police before he was arrested," he told reporters, here today.
The police found a gunny sack of motorcycle frames believed had been stolen by the gang, tools and a knife and also seized a small packet of syabu and a bottle which had been modified for drug consumption.
Nik Ros Azhan said the suspects used the house to keep the stolen motorcycles and dismantle the vehicle's components before selling them to customers and were active since early this year.
All the unemployed suspects who tested positive for drugs were remanded for four days to facilitate an investigation.
Meanwhile, police detained a 31-year-old man and seized a stolen motorcycle and stealing tools in Jalan Besar Penanti, during 'Ops Krismas' here at midnight last night.
The suspect, who was involved in a series of armed robberies, was remanded for five days to facilitate an investigation. — Bernama
