KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu state government is willing to cooperate in whatever form with Felda to build houses for second generation Felda settlers at Felda Belara scheme here.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif said 79 housing units for 79 second-generation Felda Belara families would be developed such as the project at Chalok, Setiu which was implemented by Syarikat Perumahan Malaysia Berhad (SPMB).
"The single houses will be built by SPMB on land belonging to Felda and payable via monthly instalments. It is time for Felda to build houses for its second generation because it had long been planned, but has not implemented until now," he told reporters after visiting the Felda Belara area here today.
Ahmad Razif said the ground-breaking ceremony for the project would be held in Feb while work was expected to commence next year and be completed in 18 months.
He advised Felda to perform a transformation following the ongoing development of Bandar Baharu Kuala Nerus in the Felda Belara area.
"We want the Felda scheme to develop in tandem with the rapid development of Bandar Kuala Baru Kuala Nerus because when it is implemented, it will provide employment opportunities to Felda children."
Ahmad Razif warned the local authorities against arbitrarily approving development projects to prevent floods, as often developers flouted the rules stipulated for their projects.
The state government was constructing two drainage systems costing RM85 million in Bandar Baharu Kuala Nerus and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, to avoid flash floods in the two areas
He said the 7.5 km long drainage systems, from Baruh Tok Jiring to Sungai Nerus, were expected to be completed next year.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Wan Jaafar had reprimanded the state government and local authorities for approving projects which did not comply with the rules resulting in floods in areas such as Gong Badak. — Bernama
