I will not stop until everyone can fly: Tony Fernandes

PETALING JAYA: Sharing an email from a random stranger on his Facebook, AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes has vowed not to stop until he achieves his dream to make flying possible for anyone.
He said while he acknowledged that he might be one of the most unpopular men for being outspoken and trying to make flying affordable, the battle would never stop.
"All I and AirAsia have ever tried to do was to make it cheaper for the average man to dream and fly like those with money. One day airports, regulators and politicians will understand.
"I won't stop until the slogan I came out with in the shower comes true - now everyone can fly," he said in response to the email he described as one that "made my year".
In the letter that was shared to Fernandes, the author claimed to be a long time admirer of the tycoon, saying that the former made his dreams come true, that is to fly at an affordable price.
"My dad was bankrupt, we lost everything. I started my life from nothing. When I got married, our saving was very tight. We wanted to go for a honeymoon and it happened, thanks to AirAsia.
"I remember in January 2008, we went to two cities, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok with AirAsia, because we can afford the price. Then, I started to bring my son flying for the first time, as well as my entire family," the email read.
The author also regarded Fernandes' book highly, claiming to bring the book along during all of (his) travels.
"It is so inspiring that you spared your time to put everything into this book. Now I know, behind the "now everyone can fly" slogan, a lot of blood, tears, sadness, and also happiness was behind it," the AirAsia customer said.
"Just wanted to give my respect and appreciation that your life has changed a lot of other people's lives too, and I'm inspired to do the same. Hopefully one day I will get a chance to meet you in person or even in a flight," the author added.
