JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 15 suspects over the gruesome murder of a man at a petrol station, but the three main suspects are still at large.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd today said the three main suspects in the Dec 17 slaying are believed to be still in the country.
A white BMW car believed to be used in the killing had been found at an oil palm estate in Ayer Baloi, Pontian, on Dec 26.
Mohd Khalil said police have arrested 15 suspects to date. Four have been released, while the rest of them will be remanded until Dec 30.
He said the car with no number plate was spotted by members of the public around 3pm on Dec 26.
In a video footage of the killing, a group of assailants used a BMW car to run over the victim twice at the petrol station.
"We also need to record a statement from a man in Ipoh, who lodged a police report that the car in the video footage is not his," Mohd Khalil said. "The group used the car as a weapon and police are still looking for the knife that they used to stab the victim."
The victim, known as Tan Aik Chai, died at the scene. He was also known as a gang member and had a string of criminal records.
Police are also investigating how Tan's car tyre was deflated before he arrived at the Jalan Sri Pelangi petrol station.
The brutal murder shocked the nation. Three investigation teams from Bukit Aman also came down to Johor to assist in the investigation.
