Mentally disturbed man killed by moving bus

GEORGE TOWN: A man believed to be suffering from mental health issues died after he threw himself in front of a moving bus.
In the incident at the Air Itam bus station today, the man rushed towards the moving bus, however, a few passers-by pulled him away.
Half an hour later, he did the same thing, the bus driver who was unaware of his presence, knocked him down.
The victim who died on the spot was sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
When contacted, Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call at 1.22pm.
He said two fire engines were sent to the scene to assist the police in clearing the street following the accident.
He said the victim's skull cracked upon being hit by the bus.
A Northeast district traffic spokesman said the deceased was identified as S. Prancis Xaviel, 32.
He said based on initial investigations from CCTV footage, the man had pretended to fall down in front of the bus, resulting in him being run over by the vehicle.
The spokesman said based on the post-mortem results, the victim died from severe head injury.
He said police are looking for eyewitnesses to the incident.
