Penang police chief brings curtain down on illustrious career

GEORGE TOWN: After serving the force for about 40 years, Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye (pix) is set to call it a day tomorrow, handing over the baton to his successor Datuk A. Thaiveegan.
Chuah has been tasked with various challenging experiences and positions including being commander in the police air wing unit before becoming police chief for Malacca and Penang.
He expressed his gratitude to all those who assisted him during his tenure in the police force.
Asked what was his major achievements during his one-year in Penang, Chuah said his men in narcotics department managed to cripple several drug labs and also reduced crime index by 10% since he took charge.
He also pointed out the mammoth floods that swept over the state last month was the challenging, though he expressed gratitude that many came forward to assist.
On his next plan after retiring, Chuah added he will be based in Kuala Lumpur and spend time with loved ones.
"Time for me to rest and spend time with my family," he said.
Chuah is to hand over his duty to Thaiveegan in an official handover ceremony at police headquarters.
