Seized infant formula safe, but lacks quality: Health Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: The result of the Health Ministry's analysis on the infant formula that was seized in Johor found the product safe, but did not meet the quality standards stipulated under the Food Regulations 1985.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry, with the cooperation of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK), took samples of the seized product and sent them for analysis by the Food Safety and Quality Laboratory under the Health Ministry and the Chemistry Department.
"The result of the analysis found that the product is safe. However, the product did not meet the quality standards stipulated in the Food Regulations 1985 under the Food Act 1983 in terms of fat content," he said.
On Dec 10, the Johor KPDNKK confiscated 210 boxes of infant milk powder worth RM42,000 suspected to be fake in five different locations in Johor Baru.
