GUA MUSANG: About 70 students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Limau Kasturi and 30 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Asap were forced to miss their first day at school today due to flash floods.
The children, all residing in Kampung Limau Kasturi, were not able to go to school as a bridge across a river in the village, which provides the only link to the two schools, was submerged due to rising river water following continuous heavy rain since 5pm yesterday.
The situation also caused the evacuation of eight families, involving 30 victims staying along the river.
The victim were evacuated to the relief centre at SK Limau Kasturi 2, and remained there for about two hours before the flood receded and they were allowed to return home.
Limau Kasturi Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JKKKP) chairman Mohd Sakoni Mat said water began to rise about 5am today.
It resulted in several families having to be evacuated at 9am, but some returned home after a few hours when the water receded, he said.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang district police chief Supt Mohd Taufik Maidin said the flash floods occurred in Kampung Limau Kasturi and the Jeram Tekoh South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR) land scheme. — Bernama
