Man, missing after vehicle swept by strong currents, found dead

KOTA KINABALU: A man who disappeared after the vehicle he was travelling in was swept by strong currents in a river in Kampung Sungai Bintosan Darat, Kota Marudu, yesterday was found dead this morning.
According to a spokesman of a team from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), villagers found the victim Muhammad Asyraf Nirajim, 20, at 9.06am at the river bank about 1.4m from where he was reported missing.
"The Sabah Water Rescue Team with the help of the police took the victim to the Kota Marudu Hospital where he was confirmed dead by medical officers," said the department in a statement here today.
The search-and-rescue operations for the victim began yesterday and was ended at 10.02am today.
Yesterday, the JBPM received an emergency call about the incident at 2.56am and a team from the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station was sent to the scene of the incident about 16km away.
The other six individuals who were in the Toyota Innova vehicle managed to escape by breaking the windows of the car which was found at 4.35am about 30m from where it was swept away. — Bernama
