Qobin safely flown out of Union Glacier in Antarctica

KUALA LUMPUR: National explorer Muhammad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin (pix), who is fondly called Qobin, arrived safely at Punta Arenas in Chile at 8pm Malaysian time today after he was flown out from the Union Glacier Camp, Antarctica.
7 Continents Exploration Club (KE7B) adviser Datuk Akmar Hisham Mohd Yusof, in his Facebook posting, said Qobin was flown out of the continent on a plane following the clear weather.
He said yesterday's flight had to be cancelled due to bad weather.
"We are mixed with emotions when welcoming Qobin's arrival, especially so upon seeing the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) being raised by a Malaysian at the Point 90° in the South Pole.
"This has put Qobin as Malaysia's first Grand Slam Explorer," said Akmar Hisham who was at Punta Arenas with KE7B Media and Publicity director, Hazran Mohamed.
Qobin, 36, who set out on the 2017 Malaysia Grand Slam Explorer Expedition through the 7 Continents Exploration Club (KE7B), reached the South Pole at 4.05pm on Thursday (11.05am on Thursday in Malaysia) along with six other explorers and a guide. — Bernama
