Security guard apprehends suspected robber

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Quick action by a security guard led to the arrest of a robbery suspect in an incident at a bank at Jalan Todak 4, Seberang Jaya here today.
Seberang Prai Centre (SPT) district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the security guard, aged 53, was at work at a bank at about 1.30am when the suspect snatched a handphone he was holding and fled.
"The security guard ran after the suspect while shouting for help. At the same time, two policemen were on patrol in the area and upon hearing the shout for help, went to the guard's aid and managed to apprehend the suspect," he said.
He said the police searched the suspect and found the handphone belonging to the security guard.
Investigation also revealed that the suspect, who is unemployed, had previous criminal records, including for drug-related offences, he said.
In another development,Nik Ros Azhan said police detained a 26-year-old man in connection with the theft of Yamaha motorcycles in a raid at Taman Liat here at 2.45am yesterday where police also seized a Yamaha Y125R motorcycle, believed to have been stolen at Empangan Mengkuang recently.
"The man admits stealing the motorcycle and is in the process of selling it. He also admits to stealing on Yamaha motorcycles because there is high demand for the motorcycles," he added. — Bernama
