Seven nabbed, drugs seized in New Year raid on house

BUTTERWORTH: Police got off to a good start in the New Year with the arrest of four men and three women for drugs possession at a house in Jalan Pekan Darat, Permatang Tok Jaya here.
A police team led by Inspector K. Tanapalan raided the property at 12.10am today and found two plastic bags which contained drugs in the living room.
North Seberang Perai police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said one of the packets was believed to contain 1g of heroin while another was believed to be syabu, weighing 1g.
"The value of the seizure was estimated to be worth about RM610. The police have detained the suspects aged between 23 and 43. They were brought back to the district police headquarter for further investigation," he said.
Noorzainy added that the suspects had tested positive for drugs via urine tests.
He said the police had remanded all them for seven days, starting from today to assist in the investigation.
He said the police would investigate the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking and Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the same act for possession of the drugs and administering it into their bodies.
Meanwhile, in BUKIT MERTAJAM, Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the police detained a 24-year-old snatch thief for stealing a smartphone worth about RM738.
While on beat patrol, four policemen heard a man calling for help at a flyover at Bandar Sunway in Seberang Jaya here.
The policemen gave chase after seeing the suspect flee from the man and they arrested him shortly. They found the stolen smartphone on him.
He said the police would investigate the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
In KEPALA BATAS, it was a bleak start to the New Year for a family of a 22-year-old motorcyclist, who was found drowned after falling in a canal after losing control of his motorcycle along the road from Permatang Tiga to Permatang Bogak here.
The impact of his crash saw him flung into the canal.
The district police head ACP NoorZainy Mohd Noor said the deceased was believed to have drowned as the depth of the canal was between 1.5m and 2.5m.
The body was sent for a post-mortem.
