KUALA LUMPUR: Eight New Year babies born at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) received the first Amanah Dana Anak Malaysia 2050 (ADAM50) incentive worth RM200 from Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).
"The incentive will be implemented over five years beginning Jan 1 until Dec 31, 2022," PNB president and group CEO Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad said in a news conference held here, after presenting the incentive in the form of vouchers to the infants' mothers.
He said the unit trust for every baby will be credited in either Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) for Bumiputera babies, or Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS 1Malaysia) for non-Bumiputera infants.
"The incentive units and income distribution cannot be withdrawn until the baby reaches 18 years old," he added.
For 28-year-old Nurfarahin Abd Jalil, an accountant, the incentive will provide for her first child, her daughter, who was born at 1.12am.
Homemaker Nursyaidatul Azwa Samsudin expressed surprise at the unexpected gift for her first-born son.
The incentive follows the government's announcement in Budget 2018, where children will receive 200 free incentive trust fund units, which will be credited automatically into the unit trust funds managed by Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) – a wholly-owned subsidiary of PNB – after the registration process is completed by their parents or guardian.
Meanwhile in Bukit Mertajam, a couple welcomed the birth of their first-born two days after their first wedding anniversary.
The 33-year-old wife, Nur Shatila Osman, and her 35-year-old husband Khairul Anuar Zainal Abidin, said that they had tied the knot on Dec 30, 2016.
Nur Shatila said her due date was on Jan 20, but she went into labour and gave birth to a baby girl at 4.57am.
"I did not expect to give birth to a New Year baby, it is a meaningful present for my husband and me," she told reporters at the KPJ Specialist Hospital, in Bandar Perda here today.
In Ipoh, the New Year brought joy and happiness to 26-year-old housewife Tengku Nor Atirah Tengku Roslan, who delivered twin boys at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun hospital here.
The mother from Bercham and her husband Hafizal Abu Hassan, already have a boy who was born on Jan 2, four years ago.
"The boys weighing 2.8kg were delivered at 1.30am through normal delivery," she told journalists here.
