ALOR STAR: The operators of the ferry service from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis to Langkawi have reverted to the original ticket prices after withdrawing the RM3 administration fee imposed yesterday.
Bernama conducted a check at the Kuala Kedah jetty today and found out that the price of a ticket was back to RM23 for an adult and RM17 for a child compared to RM26 and RM20 yesterday. The price at Kuala Perlis was back to RM18 (adult) and RM13 (child).
The ferry operators reverted to the old prices after protests from various quarters.
Zaiton Abdullah, 54, said the withdrawal of the administration fee was a great relief and would encourage tourism in the resort island.
Asmah Ishak, 55, said the ticket prices would amount to a big sum if all family members were taken into account.
"The ferry operator did the right thing by reverting to the old price," she said.
Consumers Association of Kedah (CAKE) secretary Yusrizal Yusoff said the association received more than 100 complaints after the new prices were imposed yesterday.
"We welcome the decision of the ferry operators to withdraw the administration fee. It is not appropriate to impose the charge merely to promote the online purchase of tickets," he said.
The operators had imposed the charge only for the purchase of tickets in person at the jetties. — Bernama
