More flood woes in several states

PETALING JAYA: The flood situation in several states worsened today with some 1,500 people evacuated to relief centres in three states.
In PAHANG, the number of flood victims rose to 677 from 195 families as at noon today, and they were being housed at 13 relief centres in the two affected districts of Rompin and Kuantan.
Pahang Civil Defence Force director Col (PA) Zainal Yusof said the most number of flood victims evacuated were in Rompin, at 389 people from 104 families who were sent to six relief centres.
"The six centres are the Telok Gading Hall in Tanjung Gemok (15 people from five families), Kampung Sepayang Community Hall (50 people from 12 families), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pontian (94 victims from 26 families).
"Kampung Setajam Community Hall (148 victims from 38 families), Kampung Pinggu Hall (41 people from 13 families) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sarang Tiong (41 people from 10 families)," he said.
The number of flood victims in the Kuantan district increased to 288 people from 91 families, being housed in seven centres.
Meanwhile, Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing was cut off at several places and was passable only to heavy vehicles while four roads were closed to all vehicles in Rompin after being inundated under 1m of floodwaters.
The affected roads were Jalan Selendang, Jalan Kota Bahagia-Kampung Meripoh, Jalan Kampung Lubuk Batu-Keratong and Jalan Sungai Mok-Bukit Mok.
The publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my website reported that as at 1.30pm, the level of Sungai Lembing in Kuala Tahan had breached the danger level of 68m to reach 68.15m.
The level of Sungai Belat in Sri Damai had also exceeded the 5m danger level, showing a reading of 5.69m.
In TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims in the Dungun district rose to 233 from 79 families as at 8am today compared to 55 people (20 families) on Monday night.
According to the Flood Information portal, another temporary relief centre was opened in the district at Surau Besol Lama to house one victim.
The highest increase in the number of flood victims was at the Kampung Shukor community hall, with 155 people (47 families) compared to 49 (16 families) previously.
The Pasir Raja community hall is currently housing 77 people (31 families) compared to six (four families) last night.
According to a Department of Irrigation and Drainage report, as at 7.30am today, the level of Sungai Dungun in Kuala Jengai was 21.33m, which was above the 21m danger level while the reading at Pasir Raja showed 38.37m (danger level at 37.50m).
Four rivers in Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu and Setiu areas have exceeded the warning level.
Meanwhile, in JOHOR, a total 379 people from 95 families in Mersing and Kota Tinggi were at nine relief centres as of today afternoon compared to 373 from 93 families in the morning after floods inundated their homes since Monday.
The floods in the two districts are being continuously monitored by numerous agencies including the Civil Defence Force, Royal Malaysian Police, Village Development and Security Committees, and the Drainage and Irrigation Department. – Bernama
