PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today accused PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang of being a turncoat, saying PAS turned down political cooperation with Pakatan Harapan so as to split the opposition vote and help Barisan Nasional win the next general election.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman said Abdul Hadi knew that PAS would not win many seats by going it alone in the general election but he was going ahead just to help the BN.
Dr Mahathir spoke to the media in conjunction with the launch of the weekly policy talk sessions dubbed 'Harapan Baru (Policy Talks)' here.
Abdul Hadi had reportedly said that PAS wanted to field candidates in more than 130 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election. Altogether, there are 222 parliamentary seats.
Dr Mahathir also said that it was for the Registrar of Societies to determine whether the PPBM annual general meeting held last Saturday was in accordance with the party constitution or otherwise.
"So far, the RoS has said nothing," he said when asked to comment on PPBM Temerloh Division chief Amerus Che Onn's complaint to RoS to investigate the validity of the PPBM AGM.
Amerus had claimed that the AGM was held without the branch and divisional meetings that would have had to elect delegates to the central meeting. — Bernama
