New internet service provider to enter broadband market on March 8

    PETALING JAYA: There will be a new player in the country's internet service provider market soon with CONNECTme slated to enter the broadband market come March 8.
    The new internet service provider says it will be able to provide 100% coverage to all Malaysians regardless of where they are, promising connectivity speed of up to 15Mbps.
    This is made possible as unlike other broadband providers, CONNECTme services are delivered via satellite-based transmission.
    On its website, CONNECTme states that it is committed to extending broadband services in underserved areas to bridge the digital divide in Malaysia.
    "We are levelling the playing field for those without home broadband. Experience 100% coverage throughout Malaysia," it said on its website.
    CONNECTme offers three internet packages for customers, with flexible prices depending on their data usage per month:
    >> CONNECTme@Home (on demand) provides data at RM25 per GB.
    >> CONNECTme@Home (fixed) offers 25GB of internet monthly at the price of RM450
    >> CONNECTme@Community allows subscribers to connect to its WiFi hotspots, priced at RM10 per 1GB with data validity for one month.
    Upon subscription, a satellite dish will be installed on the house with cables connecting the dish to an indoor unit. No telephone line will be required.
    In its FAQ page, CONNECTme also said that online gaming enthusiasts may find the service unfavourable, adding that the experience would be fine for casual internet users for purposes such as web browsing and video streaming.
