KUALA LUMPUR: The public and private sectors have been urged to study the possibility of giving unrecorded leave to employees involved in volunteering for disasters and humanitarian aid.
Yayasan Salam Malaysia chairman Datuk Ahmad A. Talib said the proposal, if implemented, would enable more people to be involved in volunteer work.
"Many people cannot become volunteers as they do not have much leave and are forced to use their annual leave.
"In order to avoid misuse, certain conditions must be applied for example the maximum is only 12 or 14 days a year of unrecorded leave for volunteering," he said in the 'Breakfast Talk' on volunteerism at the Institute of Integrity Malaysia here, today.
In addition to Ahmad as the main speaker, the programme featured INTEGRITI president and chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Anis Yusal Yusoff and Student Volunteer Foundation chairman Datuk Zuraidah Atan. It was chaired by INTEGRITI Centre For Coordinating, Monitoring and Evaluation, Hamilye Sham Harun. — Bernama
