ALOR STAR: Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA) is confident water supply problems in Kedah will be resolved by 2020 when the RM928 million project to upgrade five water treatment plants in the state is fully completed.
SADA chief executive officer Datuk Abd Ghani Zainuddin said the upgrading project involved the Pelubang, Jenun Baru, Bukit Selambau, Sungai Limau and Lubuk Buntar Lama water treatment plants.
"The implementation of the project will put in place the infrastructure to provide adequate, safe and clean treated water supply to residents in the state and we expect treated water supply would be sufficient until 2040.
"SADA also hopes the project would be completed in two years so that by 2020, there will be no more issue of water supply in the state," he told reporters after SADA-Media gathering here last night.
Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani said from January, domestic consumers who use 20 cubic metre of water or less will not have to pay the minimum bill of RM10 as announced by Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah when tabling the 2018 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly on Nov 12 last year.
"The move is effective from this month but those with water bill arrears will still be required to settle them," he said. — Bernama
