Man smashes ATM screen after failing to withdraw cash

SIBU: A man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, went berserk and smashed the screen of an automated teller machine (ATM) at a bank in Jalan Pahlawan yesterday, after the ATM failed to dispense cash.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zailanni Amit said in the 11.40 pm incident, the 44-year-old suspect, who is a People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) member, used a dustbin located next to the ATM to break the screen.
The suspect confessed that the incident was triggered by the fact that he failed to withdraw money from the ATM, he said here.
Zailanni said the bank's management was already informed about the incident to facilitate the next course of action.
The suspect would be remanded soon, he said. — Bernama
