Police probe hurling of petrol at church and temple

KOTA BARU: Police have initiated an investigation into the hurling of a "petrol bomb" at a church and a Hindu temple at Jalan Hamzah here yesterday.
State police chief Commissioner Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said a man was believed to have thrown a petrol bomb from the Jambatan Sultan Yahya Petra which is opposite church and the temple here in the 12am incident.
"No one was injured in the incident. However, the window at the second level of the church was broken. The object was found in front of the temple compound. The temple and church are next to each other," he said.
Hasanuddin said police are in the midst of investigating the motive behind the incident.
"We still tracing the suspect and we believe that the explosive object was thrown from the bridge based on the effect at the church and temple," he added.
Those with information are urged to contact the Kota Baru district police headquarters.
The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class.
