KUANTAN: A trailer lorry driver cheated death after the vehicle he was driving plunged 13m off the Ahmad Shah Bridge at Km125 of Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Temerloh in Temerloh near here, today.
Temerloh district police chief ACP Zundin Mahmood said the victim, Mohamad Faridz Ridzuan Mahmood, only sustained minor injuries in the incident which occurred at 11.30am.
"The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim tried to avoid knocking a car which was giving its way to allow an ambulance to pass through.
"Subsequently, the trailer lorry skidded before plunging into an open space under the bridge," he said when contacted here today.
Zundin said the vehicle, registered under a transport company in Mentakab, was not loaded at the time of the incident as it was making a return trip after delivering plywood to the Kuantan Port.
Initial investigation revealed that the driver had 17 summonses including two unpaid ones, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
