KUALA TERENGGANU: The dumping of prawns in the Dungun Market yesterday was due to the district having the most number of boats issued with the Monsoon Season Trawl Net (PTMT) licence compared to other districts in the state.
Terengganu Fisheries Department director, Zawawi Ali said the dumping of prawns had nothing to do with the high-tide or post-flood phenomenon.
"In Terengganu, there are 72 PTMT licensed boats and Dungun has the highest number, with 25 boats followed by Kemaman (18), Besut (15), Kuala Terengganu (nine), Setiu (four) and one in Marang.
"A total of 53.2 tonnes of shrimp landed throughout Terengganu in December and of the total, Dungun recorded the highest landing of 37.5 tonnes followed by Kemaman (9.9 tonnes), Kuala Terengganu (3.27 tonnes), Besut (1.8 tonnes), Setiu (0.6 tonne) and Marang (0.14 tonne)," he said. — Bernama
