GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) today conducted large-scale raids at several locations in the state including multiple state agency offices in Komtar.
The high profile raids were believed to have been conducted this morning at about 9am in connection with the investigation on the Penang undersea tunnel Mega Project.
It is believed that teams from MACC had raided Ewin-Zenith Sdn Bhd, 555 Capital Sdn Bhd and Consortium Zenith Sdn Bhd offices.
The MACC also raided the state Public Work Department, State Secretary and Land & Mineral Department offices in Komtar.
When contacted, a Zenith Consortium spokesman said they were in the dark over the raid carried out by the anti-graft agency.
"We did not hear anything," she said.
The raids are believed to have been carried out following Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan's a report which was allegedly accompanied with new evidence at the Putrajaya MACC over the undersea tunnel project.
It is the second report lodged by Huan. The first report to the MACC was on July 21, 2017.
Federal MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki, when contacted by theSun, confirmed the raid had been conducted.
