GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the majority of party members support the choice of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the next Prime Minister if the opposition obtains the mandate to form the government in the next general election.
There may be a small number of dissenting voices but overall, the party members support the cause of having Mahathir back because he raises the chances of Pakatan Harapan to win.
"As a democratic party, we will have differing voices. But in the end, we will come together as one to support who the party has chosen to lead the country," he said.
He also dismissed MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai's claims that DAP was sidelined following the parliamentary seat allocation announced during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) convention.
"The allocation showed that DAP and other parties in Pakatan are willing to compromise with each other for the sake of the country.
They (MCA) claimed that we have lost power and abused the trust of the Chinese but on the other hand, Umno says that DAP is the dominant party in Pakatan."
On Sunday, PH officially named Mahathir as its prime minister candidate and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as its deputy prime minister should the coalition win in the next election.
It also announced the distribution of the parliamentary seats to be contested by the component parties, which is 52 by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, 51 by PKR, 35 by DAP and 27 by Amanah.
