Wee not losing sleep over DAP's challenge for his Ayer Hitam seat

PETALING JAYA: The Pakatan Harapan seat allocation pact reached on Sunday has pushed election talk up a notch.
Among the talking points is Ayer Hitam, which went to DAP in exchange for Tanjung Piai. Both seats are in Johor and held by MCA.
Three-term Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong expects DAP to field a party strongman to challenge him contrary to media reports, which were confirmed by the party, that a Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) proxy will contest the seat under the DAP ticket.
In fact, Wee, who is the MCA No.2, is bracing himself for a duel with DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
But the minister in the Prime Minister's Department said he is not losing sleep over the prospect of a hard battle with the DAP "political star", in an apparent reference to reports in the Chinese press quoting Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong as saying that Wee should be very worried about DAP's arrangement for Ayer Hitam in the upcoming general election.
He told Oriental Daily News in an interview published yesterday that it is hard to tell at the moment who DAP will field in the constituency but "it will not be an easy fight for him for sure".
Asked what he thinks of the DAP's plan to allow a PAN candidate to contest under its banner in Ayer Hitam, he said "it is interesting" but finds it hard to believe that DAP would actually let another party's candidate contest in a seat it spent so much effort to get.
