Prominent DAP recruit quits party

GEORGE TOWN: DAP suffered a setback in its attempt to entice young voters, when prominent recruit Roger Teoh quit the party.
Teoh, who is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Transport Studies in the Royal Imperial College London, told theSun that he was now no longer a member of the party. He is currently based in London.
Teoh had earlier quit in the middle of last year over a dispute on the mammoth RM27 billion Penang Transport Masterplan, but he was later persuaded to rejoin the party by a senior leader.
He said he was fed up with the style of politics in the Opposition, adding that he had enough of politics in the country.
"I am no longer a party member. I had tendered my resignation again, just a few months after the meeting," he said.
"I do not really care about Malaysian politics and I have not been back to the country for awhile," said the 22-year-old technocrat student.
He also revealed that he had not been informed by the party's headquarters on whether his resignation was accepted, but he presumed that it had been received.
Teoh was vocally opposed to the masterplan, citing it as one of the main factors behind his resignation last year.
After being promised a direct communication channel within DAP for him to voice his concerns, he changed his mind about resigning.
When contacted, DAP Bagan division chief Phee Boon Chee said he was not aware of this development. He said he had not been informed by party headquarters about Teoh's resignation.
"I am not sure, I have not been informed anything, hence I cannot say anything now," he added.
