PSM to contest seats using their own logos, not PKR's

IPOH: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) will contest in five parliamentary and 15 state seats for the 14th General Election, according to its national deputy chairman M. Sarasvathy.
She said party members would contest under the PSM ticket, and not use logos of other opposition parties, contrary to news reports that Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj would defend the Sungai Siput constituency under a PKR ticket.
"The people voted for Jeyakumar who had worked in Sungai Siput for 30 years and not for PKR," she told reporters here today.
A two term MP, Jeyakumar is the sole parliamentarian from PSM.
In the last polls, PKR had requested for PSM to use their (PKR) logos in the Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara state seats, while PSM logos were to be used in the Semenyih and Jelapang state seats.
Sarasvathy said this had caused confusion among party members, and thus the congress has decided that candidates would only stand under the PSM banner.
She however said PSM would still support Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates.
"We are open to discussion, we have sent 12 letters to PH to negotiate the seats. They have not replied yet ... we hope to meet as soon as possible before Parliament is dissolved.
"If negotiations are held after the dissolution, it will only create more problems ... it was the same problem during the Pakatan Rakyat era," she said.
When asked on the possibility of opposition candidates contesting against PSM, she said the party expects multi-cornered fights and would leave it to voters to assess their work.
