Flood victims increase in Segamat, Mersing

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Segamat and Mersing stood at 118 as at 8am today, compared to 95 last night, following continuous light rain since yesterday.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said 28 people from seven families had been moved to the evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Papan in Mersing.
Another 34 from eight families were being sheltered at another centre, at Balai Raya Kampung Tenglu, he said in a statement here today.
He said a lane at Jalan Telok Arong (J214) in the same district had been closed to traffic due to a landslip; however, part of the lane was still accessible to the public.
In Segamat, 46 people comprising 14 families are sheltered at Balairaya Gemereh Balai Badang while another 10 from two families, at Balairaya Kampung Pogoh Tengah.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of adverse weather in the districts of Segamat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru and Kulai while Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Pontian districts are advised to be on alert. — Bernama
