KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was fined RM2,000, in default two months' jail, by the magistrate's court here today for robbing a female tourist from China, three days ago.
Magistrate Maizatul Munirah Abd Rahman sentenced K. Sugumaran, 47, after he pleaded guilty to stealing a sling bag containing RM211 and a microphone belonging to Xiong Xingbao.
The offence was committed at Bukit Bintang MRT Station, Dang Wangi, here at 3.30pm on Jan 9.
Deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim urged for a deterrent sentence 'as a lesson to the accused'.
However, the accused who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency on the grounds that he had repented and would not repeat the offence.
"I am also not working because I'm always ill and am dependent on my wife's income," he said. — Bernama
