ALOR STAR: Kedah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has asked the people of Kedah to evaluate with wisdom the decision of the opposition Pakatan Harapan pact to name Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its candidate for prime minister.
He said an administration under a 93-year-old Dr Mahathir, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman, would be unlike that while he was the prime minister for 22 years when he was with Umno.
"I am confident the people will be able to evaluate his capability because we are heading towards being a more progressive and dynamic nation," he said to reporters at a meet-the-people session in Kampung Darat here today.
Ahmad Bashah, who is the Kedah Mentri Besar, also said that he was sure Dr Mahathir, if he were to be appointed the prime minister, would give preference to his family members engaged in politics over the interests of the people.
"This will be detrimental to the nation," he added.
He said it was evident that PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was hardly getting any mention lately although he was the deputy prime minister at one time.
Ahmad Bashah also said that Umno and the Barisan Nasional were ready to face Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election. — Bernama
