T. Nhaveen murder: DPP to request transfer of case to High Court

GEORGE TOWN: The magistrate's court here today set Feb 26 for the management of the case involving four teen boys charged with murdering bullying victim, T. Nhaveen, in June last year.
Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid set the date after deputy public prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussin informed the court that the prosecution had obtained the victim's chemistry and medical reports.
The lawyer representing the victim's family, Datuk Baljit Singh, when met by reporters outside the court said the prosecution would next file an application for the case to be transferred to the High Court.
The media was not allowed in the court as it involved juveniles.
Nhaveen's mother was present at the court today, and so were the family members of the four accused.
On June 19 last year, four teenagers including Form Four and Form Five students were brought to court on the charge of murdering Nhaveen.
J. Ragesuthen, 18, and S. Gokulan, 18, and two other minors were charged with committing the act together between 11pm and midnight near the Karpal Singh Learning Centre, Jalan Kaki Bukit, Gelugor, near here, on June 9, 2017.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Earlier, in the sessions court here, Judge Irwan Suainbon also set Feb 26 for the mention of a case involving the four teenagers, who were also charged with injuring T. Preevin, 19, a friend of Nhaveen.
Irwan set the date after deputy public prosecutor Farah Aimy Zainul told the court that she had received all the victim's medical and chemistry reports and requested for a date to hand over the documents.
All the accused, now detained at Sungai Petani Juvenile Prison, were charged with injuring Preevin at the same place, time and place of Nhaveen's murder.
They were charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, and could face up to 20 years in prison, and fine or whipping, if convicted of the offence.
Nhaveen, 18, was seriously injured after being beaten by a group of teenagers at Jalan Kaki Bukit, resulting in brain death. His friend, Preevin was also reported to be beaten up by the group using a helmet, but he managed to escape to seek help. — Bernama
