Those with titles should stay out of trouble: S'gor police chief

SEPANG: Prominent or public figures, especially those carrying titles, are advised to conduct themselves in a manner that befits their status, said Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor.
Without naming others, he said cases similar to the one involving actor Datuk Farid Kamil Zahari, 37, yesterday, had occurred on several occasions involving other prominent people.
"This is not the first time whereby persons like the arrested suspect has behaved in an inappropriate manner.
"That too in a police station. I would like to remind the public that under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, the police may arrest anyone who behaves inappropriately within the police station without the need for a warrant," he said.

Mazlan said the incident had occurred after a member of the public stumbled upon the actor who was shirtless at an area near the Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya, yesterday.
"The suspect said he had been involved in a road accident. The member of the public subsequently took him to the Kota Damansara traffic police counter.
"There he displayed reckless and unstable behaviour prior to hitting a traffic policeman and kicking two members of the public when asked to describe the accident he had claimed to be involved in," he told reporters after officiating the graduation ceremony for 229 auxiliary policemen under the Aviation Safety Assistant Training (AVSEC) who will serve for Malaysia Airports Bhd at the Bunga Raya Complex, here, today.
Initial investigations, he said revealed that the suspect was under the influence of drugs.
"At present we are looking to investigate the case thoroughly and hope to charge him for several offences available under the law," he added.
Meanwhile, at PETALING JAYA, the magistrates' court granted a four-day remand order against Farid Kamil.
It was reported that his lawyer Athari Bahardin said that Farid Kamil is being investigated under Section 90 of the Police Act for indecent behaviour in a police station; Section 323 and Section 353 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt and using criminal force to obstruct a public servant from carrying out his duties and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.
