KUALA LUMPUR: In efforts to create a knowledge-based society, the Federal Territories Ministry aims to establish a 1 Federal Territory Library (1WP Library) at every parliamentary constituency in the capital.
Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Friends of KL Libraries programme had also been introduced to facilitate various social and intellectual activities to be organised with local community associations, school teachers and various parties.
"I urge local residents to look after the library and utilise the facility responsibly so that it can be enjoyed by everyone," he told reporters after officiating the Medan Idaman 1WP Library, Setapak, which was implemented through the Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB)'s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) today.
Tengku Adnan also hoped other private companies would come forward to help set up the library by providing the facility through their respective CSR programmes.
"Under the MRCB's CSR programme, it has completed two libraries, namely in Lembah Pantai and Medan Idaman, Setapak, while another in Kampung Pandan will follow soon," he said.
The Medan Idaman 1WP Library, covering an area of 13,000 square feet and costing RM5 million, has a total of 13,231 books in its collection apart from offering visitors various other facilities such as computer rooms, self-service borrowing and returning of books, Internet and WiFi services. — Bernama
