KUALA BERANG: All internet and cellular coverage and linkages at the district polling centres (PDM) in Terengganu should be on standby ahead of the coming 14th General Elections (GE14).
Deputy Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Seri Jailani Johari said his ministry had started the upgrading in stages to ensure the service was in tip-top condition by then.
"This matter is very important because we don't want any problem pertaining to communications during the GE ... we don't want the level of coverage to be still less satisfactory.
"I have directed that the internet access at the 566 PDM in Terengganu, as well as the 8,245 PDM nationwide, is at its best level," he told reporters after a gathering with the Sungai Berua Orang Asli community here today.
Jailani, who is also Hulu Terengganu Member of Parliament, said the poor internet coverage at the moment was due to the upgrading process that had yet to be fully completed.
"I am aware the network coverage is inconsistent, especially in rural areas but the upgrading from 2G to 3G and 4G is still underway.
"Access to internet and cellular services also depends on weather and demographic factors but we will try to ensure this problem is resolved within the time frame set," he added. — Bernama
