Kuchingites enliven Hasanah Day celebration

KUCHING: The Hasanah Day Programme held at the Penview Convention Centre in Demak Jaya here, was thronged by 3,000 city dwellers to enliven the programme organised by Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah).

Khazanah managing director Datuk Wira Azman Mokhtar said the programme, which was co-organised with the Hasanah Foundation as well as several corporate partners and NGOs, featured 40 booths offering various services such as counselling, health checks, lectures, art workshops, handicrafts, educational classes and other useful activities for visitors.

He said this was the third in a series of Hasanah Day programmes held, which was a platform to gather the relevant agencies to implement their corporate social responsibility activities for the well-being of the community.

"Alhamdulillah, the Hasanah Day organised here has succeeded in achieving its goals, providing various benefits in terms of goodwill and welfare to the society in general, and after this it (the programme) will head to the north and the East Coast," he told reporters when met here, today.

The first Hasanah Day programme organised by Khazanah was held at the Seri Semarak People's Housing Project area on Sept 4, attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, and it was followed by a second programme held at Iskandar Puteri in Johor, on Nov 25.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who launched the programme today, welcomed such an initiative as it showed the government's willingness to approach and engage with the people.

"I was a little surprised and did not expect the programme to get such a (overwhelming) response from residents of Kuching, as it is a little far from the city centre," said the Santubong Member of Parliament.

"Kudos to Khazanah for making this programme a success. Hopefully such programmes will continue to be held in towns all over Sarawak," he added. — Bernama
