Policeman among eight suspected members of international drug trafficking ring detained

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) crippled an international drug trafficking ring with the arrest of eight suspects, including a policeman, in raids conducted in the federal capital and in Johor.
Bukit Aman Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said drugs worth RM721,000, comprising syabu, ketamine, cannabis, erimin 5 and ecstasy pills, as well as RM2.1 million were seized during the raids.
He said the suspects, aged between 32 and 59, were arrested in raids jointly carried out by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) since last Wednesday.
"The policeman, in his 30s, was arrested in Setapak and he is believed to be the middleman and a drug pusher, himself. He also tested negative for drug," he told a media conference here today.
He said among the suspects detained was a couple, believed to be the mastermind of the syndicate, who were arrested at a condominium in Bandar Baru Seri Petaling here.
The police also seized wight vehicles, jewellery and 50 rounds of ammunition.
All the suspects are in remand for a week for investigation under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, he added. — Bernama
