Unpleasant day for Green, Fung

SHAH ALAM: The hopes of two Malaysian pros, Gavin Kyle Green and Nicholas Fung, to record a victory in their singles event on the final day of the 2018 EurAsia Cup, were dashed.
In the final round held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Green who was up against Rafa Cabrera Bello of Spain lost on a 4&3 score.
"It was disappointing. I don't know what to say because it was just a tough day for me. I got off to a terrible start.
"Rafa played kind of normal but then I just made too many bogeys. I kind of gave him the lead which is kind of stupid," he told reporters after the match.
Nevertheless, Green had played well on the first and second day to help Team Asia take the lead as he contributed two points in the fourballs and foursomes format matches.
"I was still trying to push and trying to come back and hopefully help, at least score a point for Asia. All I can do now is sit, watch and support. But, I had fun this week," he said.
Meanwhile, Fung, who faced Sweden's Alex Noren in the first match, also experienced a similar fate, when he was easily defeated by Noren by 4&2 scores.
"After the draw come out yesterday, I knew it was going to be a tough game playing against Noren, because he's one of the top golfers in Europe.
"It's a good exposure for me and Team Asia. Of course, I know it's hard to play against the top golfers of Europe, and of course we always try to beat Europe so that can give us more confidence to go out and play in Europe in future," he said.
Team Europe put on a strong challenge in the final round of the 2018 EurAsia Cup and comfortably outclassed Team Asia.
The team, led by Thomas Bjorn, added eight-and-a-half points from today's singles events for overall points of 14 to win the tournament by four points. — Bernama
