Floods cause 3 S'wak schools to close temporarily

MIRI: Three Sarawak primary schools with a population of 223 had to be closed temporarily as a result of floods caused by continuous heavy rain since yesterday.
The State Disaster Management Committee in a statement today said two of the schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Bong and SK Kuala Bok in Baram, Miri, while the third was SK Kuala Kenyana in Mukah.
"SK Sungai Bong has 121 pupils,13 teachers and seven administrative staff while SK Kuala Bok has 62 pupils, 12 teachers and eight administrative staff," it said.
It said Sk Kuala Kenyana which consisted of 40 pupils,13 teachers and seven administrative staff allowed pupils staying at the hostel to return home when the water level began rising yesterday.
"The floods also hit five schools, SK Sungai Kelabit,SK Sungai Seputi, Sk Pengarah Enteri, SK Sungai Anak and SK Iban Union but they remain open," it said. — Bernama
